Our Story & Mission
Serving Families, Sustaining Hope
Our Story
Legacy CDC was originally started in 2006 as a nonprofit to support children in the region. In our decades of serving our community, we have seen how a stable housing situation is the critical foundation to self-sufficient families and safer communities for children. As we’ve grown our organization and adopted the name Legacy Community Development Corporation, we’ve developed a wholistic approach to helping families avoid homelessness, develop financial stability, and achieve self-sufficient independence.
We received our first certification as a Community Housing Development Organization in 2009 by the City of Orange and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA). We were certified by the City of Beaumont as a CHDO in 2010 and the City of Port Arthur in 2012.
Through our CHDO certifications, we’ve purchased and renovated a number of single family homes and multi-family units which we have then resold or leased to low and moderate income families. In addition, we provide a homeownership education program, including credit counseling, homebuyer certification and financial education, to provide families with accessible and actionable information.
Our Mission
Legacy Community Development Corporation is dedicated to providing housing opportunities, education, supportive services and referrals to create stable, self-sufficient families.
Our Vision
Because of Legacy Community Development Corporation’s holistic approach to helping families achieve stability and self-sufficiency, our community will be empowered, safe and sustained.
